In June 2016, the Addiction Policy Forum launched #129aDay, an awareness and action campaign based on the Center for Disease Control's numbers of 129 lives lost a day due to a drug overdose in 2014.
Since that time the numbers have changed each year showing the devastating effects of a worsening epidemic. The most recent data from the CDC for 2018 shows 185 people lost each day -- over 167,000 people in a single year.
#185aDay represents the number of individuals who die each day from a substance use disorder: parents, siblings, children, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
Together, we can end this epidemic.
